Welcome

Mom turned business woman and everything in between

Something is exhilarating about the sun rays penetrating my skin to my soul!! I grew up with an underground pool, so laying out for endless hours and floating in the pool was my go-to for all my summers. As I have stepped into my 40’s, I can now see the effects of all those years. Sunscreen wasn’t even a consideration! I mean WHY would a person want to stop the tan from coming?? Give me the baby oil!!I have changed my summer routine drastically and encourage you younger ladies to start now! Here are 5 tips to give your skin that beautiful summer glow, without sacrificing your youthful appearance in years to come! As you can see, SPF is a common thread mentioned in ALL my skincare posts, which is not a coincidence. You can enjoy your summer fun AND ensure the health of your skin at the same time.

1. Keep your lips hydrated.

Between the morning walks, beach volleyball, camping fun, and swimming, lips can take a beating!

Baobab oil will help keep your lips hydrated. Our Bella gloss will aid in repairing the natural healing properties baobab provides.

I also like to keep a good lip sunscreen on hand when spending a day outside. Things to consider when looking for a product that will fit these needs.

SPF 15 blocks up to 93% of UV rays

SPF 30 blocks up to 97% of UV rays

SPF 50 blocks up to 98% of UV rays

As you can see, looking for a lip sunscreen with anything higher than 50 SPF isn’t worth possible added cost. There is no sunscreen capable of blocking 100% of the sun’s harmful radiation.

2. Swap foundation for a BB/CC cream or tinted moisturizer.

A full-coverage foundation can feel heavy on skin when it’s a scorching, sweaty day. Consider swapping out the usual full coverage foundation or cream for a lightweight version. There are several on the market to choose from, but here is what I use and love. It Cosmetics is my new personal favorite and provides a full coverage look, with a lightweight feel.

Be sure to not rely solely on the SPF in this or any other foundation, BB/CC, or tinted moisturizer. Although it is an excellent start to the day, all SPF will need to be reapplied to be efficacious every 2-3 hours.

3. Get a SAFE tan on your face.

Sun radiation is damaging to our skin; I know news flash, right?

But seriously. Let me stress the importance of not only SPF but of shielding our face from those harmful rays. Wear your sunscreen but wear a cute hat too and big sunglasses (hello Audrey Hepburn).

When you practice that, you will be saving your tender skin from faster aging! But while doing this, your face will be a lighter shade than the rest of your sun-kissed body. It is a gradual difference, but to make sure you look sun-kissed all over, use a bronzer to add that color to your face.

I am in love with how easily our bronzer blends and builds. These palettes hold 4 eyeshadows, a highlighter, a blush, and the bronzer. You get an entire look for a little more than what you would pay for a high-quality bronzer.

No brainer for me!

4. Go waterproof for a few months.

There is little more embarrassing then literally melting in the heat at a BBQ. Let’s hold off the raccoon look for Halloween.

Going to a waterproof formula will reassure you the eyeliner and mascara will stay put where you want it, all day, no matter the heat or humidity.

My favorite waterproof mascara at the moment is Younique’s Moodstruck Epic Waterproof in black. I will be honest, I don’t wear mascara a whole lot whenever I am swimming, but if we have a lake party to go to or a get together outside, I will.

As for eyeliner, our newest product launch will be my go-to.

5. Last but not least, WATER!!!

Water is a forgotten tool in beautiful summer skin that needs to be in everyone’s arsenal.

Water helps not only keep us hydrated, aids in mental clarity and energy, it is also crucial to flush toxins out of our bodies, and yes, our skin is included in that.

There are many suggestions on how much water to drink, and if other beverages can be considered a valid replacement for water. My advice is to drink half your body weight of water (oz.) a day. So if you weigh 140 pounds, aim for 70 ounces of water a day. As for substitutions, anything that doesn’t contain caffeine or alcohol can be an option. I do warn you to watch the calories! Drinking juice, for instance, or milk, even caffeine-free pop like Sprite, can add calories fast!!

Taking the precautionary measurements early in your life will make your summertime routine exponentially more manageable later in life.  A little tinted moisturizer, bronzer, mascara, and lipgloss and you are set to go! A completed natural look, with all the SPF needed. In the coming weeks, I will go over the skincare routine in more detail. It is a routine that will start to heal your skin and reveal a glowy complexion that will have all your friends and even strangers asking you what your secret is.

I would love to hear from you! What are some of your favorite go-to summer products you cannot live without?

XO,

Sydney
